We are thrilled and excited to share with you our pre-launch page which has some of the details of what we're hoping to accomplish in the future with your direct support! In return for backing our Kickstarter, we are offering a wide range of rewards, such as; Animated HA-wearables, exclusive avatars and items, and magical pet species! From the honor-bound  Royal Knight tier, through to the magical Grand Arcanist tier, we believe we have crafted an assortment of content bound to enhance your Santae experience! 

We're also going to be offering limited-quantity tiers for you to have a direct influence of the content on Santae, by working with our Art & Development teams to create hair styles, Minimals, item sets and even an NPC in your image or design!

Our goal is $20,000, but we have planned an assortment of Stretch Goals that include some exciting features and updates that we want to bring to Santae, such as:  Pet Backgrounds/Auras, Adventure Party System, and even.. Pet Plushies Merch (To name just a few!).

Our campaign launch date is 30th August and will run until 30th September!

Farming/Life Sim Survey!

I've started working on making making a game and I want help from you!

I know people on Tumblr aren't as keen on moving to Bluesky compared to the Bird Site (and I don't wanna deal with posting this on said site if I don't have to..) BUT if anyone on here is interested in becoming more active on Bluesky, I'd like to share that I made a feed for petsite stuff! Currently collects posts tagged as "browserpetgame", "petsite", and a bunch of titles like Neopets and Flight Rising (and my bias PawBorough lol).

I'll tag this post with the other tags it currently grabs but feel free to recommend additions to the list. Keep in mind though some game titles might be harder to implement if they have a heavy overlap with unrelated content but I will try to make things work with enough tinkering.

Backers Beware: Santae

"Santae - An Enchanting Virtual Pet and Avatar RPG World!" is a Kickstarter campaign raising funds to further develop Santae.net, a browser based virtual pet site. Through aggressive marketing campaigns and releasing a highly polished alpha build, the project has amassed a large following and supporters. As of writing, the campaigned has raised over $70k, nearly quadruple of their $20k goal.

Unfortunately, numerous allegations have emerged surrounding the project. Claims ranging from design plagiarism to shoddy interactions between staff and the playerbase have been reported, but the most concerning of all has been this exposé on the artist paying rates.

For those who may not have the time to read through this lengthy post, I would like to highlight this excerpt:

"Please bear this in mind when you think about those 150 to 500 dollar price tags on the Kickstarter for designing items. 150 dollars for Hair, when the artist will get 5. 200 dollars for a single clothing item, when the range the artist will receive will be 2 to 8 USD."

As of writing, there has been no official statement regarding these alleged pay rates.

I do not wish to see Santae fail. I gladly welcome any addition to the relatively niche genre of virtual pet games. However, I cannot rest easy knowing hundreds of people might unknowingly be supporting a project that exploits the people it owes its success to. The linked post has been reblogged less than 20 times.

The primary goal of this post is to spread awareness. Backers deserve transparency on the projects they are supporting. I implore readers to share if they can, as the campaign ends in 8 days.

Just gotta gush here;

I'm DMing my first oneshot next Friday and I am SO excited and SO scared! It's for my fellow grad students in the lab, including one newbie who has never played any TTRPG before, so I'm. Very Nervous about that. But she requested a Christmas theme, so even though I don't care for the holiday I had Ideas and I'm just.

Having SO much fun trying to balance encounters around a low-level, inexperienced party, and making battlemaps, and instead of minis we have candy instead (I've got a surprise Big Chocolate Santa to destroy if they decided to go for a boss fight), and loot tables for Santa's Workshop (with cheeky references like a Ring of Invisibility addressed to one Frodo), and integrating backstories into this as best I can, and figuring out how I'll vaguely keep things on track, and preparing some music (including old favorite Wrath of the Lich King and Narnia tracks) and JUST!!!

WOW this is so much fun but so nerve-wracking!

Santa's elves unionized, so he sacked them and replaced them with gingerbread men constructs... which attracted mimics.

Seeing the cookie-carnage, Santa fled with his bare-minimum number of reindeer, abandoning the workshop a week-ish before Fantasy Christmas.

A dragon, finding this wealth of gold and toys unclaimed, decided to move in with her goblin entourage, and obviously everyone thinks she ate Santa. The dragon, meanwhile, is quite happy descending into her deep winter slumber knowing her hatchling has a toy-hoard to keep it occupied. And as for the goblins, they have gotten in touch with their artistic side and are throwing themselves into making toys.

Also the mimics are all very small toys and keep eating goblins that are out of sight. And really want to eat that baby dragon.

So that's what three adventurers are going to walk into after braving the blizzard to 'save Christmas'. What happens next? Up to them!

Flight Rising Secret Santa Art

The community-made Secret Santa art trade is always one of the highlights of my year. It seems to get bigger every year with lots of people making bonus gifts.

I meant to have these up a while ago, but I wanted to finish rendering the process video of my main gift first. It's only my second time trying to timelapse an art process, so the video skips around a bit and I didn't catch the full process... It's still over 20 minutes long though.

The gift for my main recipient:

The FR dragon was named and themed after an Elder Scrolls character, the semi-god Sotha Sil, so I referenced iterations of that character and his Clockwork City alongside Flight Rising content like the Golem Workshop.

And this year's bonus gifts!

The headshots in particular were a bit of a speedrun, testing out some unfamiliar brushes while seeing how fast I could set up a strong light source. I'm thinking of making another commission tier for quick experimental paintings like these.

Characters belong to eggdestoyer, Eversnow, Tiz, MistyGold, and Dormiebasne, on Flight Rising. All artwork belongs to myself.
